All About the Project
About Reel-Illusionary Zone
From the singularly unique imagination of filmmaker John Hartman of groovyfilms.biz, comes a one-of-a-kind steampunkish art house feature film in super 8mm, Reel-Illusionary Zone. Though a silent film, Reel-Illusionary Zone is an aural and visual feast. In a style largely based on the visual elements of German Expressionism, Hartman also weaves a few modern components into the film, including fashion and color. He sets it all to a soundtrack worthy of a rock opera.
Photographed in the United States and Bulgaria, Reel-Illusionary Zone features well-known Denver comedian, Ben Kronberg (recently of Jimmy Kimmel Live and ABC’s Wipeout fame) and Denver filmmaker Johnny Morehouse. Kronberg and Morehouse are also known as super 8mm gurus on the Denver scene. Together they have hosted the 5F and Super 8 Side Show film events. XZanthia, owner of the former Gallery XZanthia in the Santa Fe Art District, also stars in the film.
Synopsis – All was well for a certain toy maker in Toyland until one day the toys revolt and head for the real world. Without any experiences to guide them safely, the toys must first traverse the bizarre and surreal Reel-Illusionary Zone.
Reel-Illusionary Zone is directed, written, photographed, and edited by John Hartman of groovyfilms.biz. Zee of Unfolding Story Pictures, produced the film.
