My Pitch
A full-time novelist best known for The Last Witchfinder, a loopy historical epic that was well received by Janet Maslin and other critics.
All About Me
I have been writing fiction ever since, shortly after my seventh birthday, I dictated "The Story of the Dog Family" to my mother, who dutifully typed it up and bound the pages with yarn. This three-page, six-chapter fantasy is still in my private archives.
Upon reaching adulthood, I proceeded to write nine novels and enough short stories to fill two collections, winning the Nebula Award (twice), the World Fantasy Award (twice), and the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire (once) in the process.
My most celebrated and successful literary endeavor to date, a postmodern phantasmagoria called The Last Witchfinder, was praised as an "inventive feat" by the New York Times. In February of 2009 the trade-paperback edition of The Philosopher's Apprentice will appear in bookstores. This seriocomedy, which I sometimes describe as "Frankenstein meets Lolita on the Island of Dr. Moreau," was favorably reviewed on the NPR program Fresh Air.
February of 2009 will see the publication of Shambling Towards Hiroshima, a stand-alone historical novella set in 1945. It tells of the U.S. Navy's attempt to hasten the end of the Pacific War via the Knickerbocker Project, aimed at producing the ultimate biological weapon: a race of giant mutant fire-breathing iguanas with a propensity toward incinerating Japanese cities. I believe that this satiric yarn will prove especially compelling to Godzilla fans.
My current project -- for which I intend to pick the collective cortex of the iCrew community -- is a pseudo-Victorian novel about the birth of the Darwinian worldview, tentatively titled Galapagos Regained.

My evolving historical novel tells of the hypothetical Percy Bysshe Shelley Society, dedicated to finding a definitive proof, or disproof, of God's existence.
