About iCrew

Thank you for using iCrew, the site where creative people help each other out!

The iCrew site is at the very beginning of a Beta-test phase, which means some stuff won't work — we promise!

When something doesn't work, please give us feedback via the "Submit Feedback" link at the bottom of any page or email us at feedback@icrew.com.

How to use iCrew

To become active in iCrew, you need to create an account and log in. It's easy! Just click the Join button at the top of any page (when you're not already logged in).

Once you provide the basic information, you'll get an email confirmation. As soon as you click the link in that message, you're ready to log in and get started!

If you take the time to fill out the various tabs in your personal profile, it will help potential collaborators learn about you and maybe take an interest in your projects.

Projects?

iCrew isn't your typical social-networking site, where you try to collect a lot of virtual friends or look up your classmates.

iCrew is about creative projects, like movies and books.

For example, if your band is creating a new album, you might want help deciding what to call it. Or you need suggestions for album art. If other people on iCrew find your project and the need you're looking to fill interesting, maybe they'll help you out.

Free help?

Well, yeah. People love to find ways to express themselves, work with interesting people, and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes from helping make something good.

If a fellow iCrewer appreciates your response to his or her need request, they might acknowledge you with a credit. What are credits worth? Nothing. Or maybe a tiny piece of immortality. The feeling you get from doing a good turn, from receiving a little recognition. Bragging rights to add to your portfolio. The pride of saying "hey, I helped make that!"

Maybe it's just me, but I think it beats filling out one of those "Which Prussian chancellor are you?" quizzes, usually sent as a bulletin titled "I'm bored." Karl August von Hardenberg, in case you're asking.

So, here's what it's all about: a logged-in user can create a workspace for his or her own projects and/or can help out with other people's projects.

Also, there's a feature in development called "groups" (what a concept!) that lets bunches of people — like a production team, band, or sketch troupe — set up a presence on iCrew where they can get help for their general or random needs. You can mix and match these features, creating or accepting invites to various groups, creating one or more projects, and participating in the needs responses, discussions, blog threads, etc. of other projects, users, and groups.

Have fun, please be respectful to fellow creatives, and make something beautiful!

Who is iCrew?

A smattering of filmmakers, mostly, many of whom also have roots in the web/software field. You'll see us around the site, making projects just like — we surely hope — you will!
